What actually sets the number
The model and its original price set the ceiling. A flagship that retailed at two hundred and fifty dollars has more room beneath it than a paddle that retailed at eighty, and no amount of condition closes that gap.
Condition sets where you land beneath that ceiling, and it is the factor with the widest spread. The same model in Mint and in well-played condition are not close in value.
Age matters separately from condition, because paddle construction has moved quickly. A three-year-old paddle in beautiful condition is still a three-year-old paddle, and thermoformed construction changed what buyers expect.
Demand for that specific model matters more than people expect. A paddle that reviewers rated well holds value; a paddle nobody asks for is worth what somebody will pay for it, which is less.
And face texture cuts across all of it. On a raw carbon paddle bought for its spin, a smooth face is the difference between the paddle people want and a different paddle entirely.
Why nobody can give you a firm number online
Every online quote, here and everywhere else, is an estimate against what you describe. That is not a hedge — it is the honest consequence of the fact that the two most valuable pieces of information about a paddle cannot be transmitted in a form.
Core integrity is the first. It is checked by hand and by ear, and a paddle with a separated core can photograph perfectly. The second is face texture, which is a tactile property; photographs of a face tell you about scratches, not about bite.
So a quote is priced from what you tell us, and confirmed against the same twelve points on arrival. If the final offer differs, we email it and issue nothing until you accept. Decline and the paddle goes back to you at our cost.
How to estimate yours before you ask
Start from what the paddle sold for new, not what you paid. Then place it honestly in one of three bands: essentially unplayed, played and looked after, or played regularly and showing it. Those bands map closely to how a graded shop will see it.
Then apply the two discounts most people forget. Age, if the model is more than about two years old and has been superseded. And texture, if it is a raw carbon face that has lost its bite — that one is larger than most sellers expect and it is the most common cause of a revised offer at inspection.
What you should not do is price from the highest asking price you can find online. Asking prices are not sale prices, and on popular models the gap between them is wide.
